With "Words Are Power," Tré draws upon the central pillars of his Vocal Type foundry to create a design rich with emotion, that boldly speaks for those who are typically underrepresented in design. In the four corners, rendered in simple and impactful fonts, Tré presents strong phrases from recent (and historical) protests for social justice. These impassioned pleas for equality from and for the Black community press for equality, reform, and an end to centuries-old systemic racism in the U.S.
In a nod to the Vocal Type logo and the paisley patterns of traditional bandanas, Tré beautifully weaves quotation marks into his design to give the words a sense of action and urgency. Bold black lines set against a deep red background evoke the pain of generations. Almost as if the design itself is channeling the loud, anguished voices of protesters across this country's history.
